What is the purpose of the WhatIf functionality?

This allows for the assessment of the application and configuration without making changes to the source SharePoint system. 

The provided CAML query is used to select documents, after downloading the properties are extracted from the documents and then saved to a local csv file. The metadata is not uploaded to SharePoint.
